Biography

Malcolm has run 50 marathons and ultras. Notable distance races include the Brathay 10 Marathons in 10 Days Challenge in 2008, Comrades Ultra, Lake Tahoe Triple, New York, London, Athens, Toronto, Ottawa, Boston (2013, 2014), Mt. Hood 50 Miles (Oregon), and Yakima (x3) (Washington State).

In addition to writing articles on distance running Malcolm is the author of four running books, one of which was ‘The Marathon Maniacs: The World’s Most Insane Running Club’ – where he worked closely as the book’s editor with the runners who were telling their running story. The end result is a compilation of 77 awesome stories and experiences from distance runners in the club. 

Malcolm has an extensive writing background, which includes academic and consulting research. He has conducted hundreds of interviews over the years, including interviews for his book ‘The Messengers’ in which he wrote the stories of over one hundred runners who have completed 100 marathons or more. He has also been the host of a television series on marathon running. Some of his own running experiences are described in ‘A Marathon Odyssey.’

Malcolm has written one novel and is currently writing a book on fulfillment in life – “Fulfillment in Your Life: A Field Guide for reflection, assessment, and future strategies for living a Fulfilled Life” – due for publication in 2026. He is a member of the Canadian Authors Association, Founding Member of the Canadian Freelance Guild, and a member of the International Positive Psychology Association.
